Setting Up Drip Campaigns — Step by Step
Video tutorial
What Is a Campaign?
A campaign is an automated sequence of emails sent over time. You set it up once, and contacts receive each email on a schedule. Here's a simple example:
Welcome email
Sent immediately on signup
Getting started tips
3 days after signup
Special offer
7 days after signup
Once a campaign is active, new contacts matching your segment are enrolled automatically. You set it up once and it runs forever.
Creating a Campaign
Go to Campaigns
Click Campaigns in the sidebar.
Click New Campaign
Give your campaign a name that describes its purpose (e.g. “New User Onboarding”).
Select a segment
Choose which contacts should receive this campaign. You can pick an existing segment or create one.
Create campaign dialog
Name your campaign and select the target audience
Adding Steps
Each step is an email in the sequence. Configure each step with:
Set the delay
How long after enrollment (or the previous step) should this email be sent? Set it in hours or days.
Write the email
Add a subject line and compose the email body. You can use templates and merge tags.
Add more steps
Click Add Step to add the next email in the sequence. Add as many steps as you need.

Space your emails 2–4 days apart for best results. Too frequent feels spammy. Too far apart and people forget about you.
Choosing Your Audience
Campaigns are linked to a segment. Here's how it works:
- All contacts in the segment are enrolled when the campaign starts
- New contacts matching the segment rules are enrolled automatically
- Unsubscribed contacts are always skipped
- Each contact only goes through the campaign once

Activating & Monitoring
Review your campaign
Double-check each step, the delays, and the target segment.
Click Activate
Your campaign starts enrolling contacts immediately.
Monitor progress
The campaign dashboard shows: enrolled contacts, current step progress, delivery stats, and engagement metrics.

Track enrollment, delivery, and engagement in real-time
You can pause or stop a campaign at any time. Pausing freezes the schedule — contacts resume from where they left off when you unpause.

Best Practices
Begin with a 3-step welcome sequence. You can always add more steps later based on how people respond.
Each email should teach, help, or delight. Don't just sell — give people a reason to open the next one.
If a step has low open rates, improve the subject line. If a step has high unsubscribes, the content may need work or the timing is off.
